Stricken by the war? Your bank may be able to help
In an internal memo issued in early August, the banks supervisor ordered banks to assist northern residents. "We must devote special attention to these clients and attempt to assist them in accordance with their wishes and the judgment of the bank," he wrote. The supervisor outlined potential areas in which banks might offer financial relief: "credit terms, delayed payment of credit card bills, early redemption of closed accounts, penalty-free savings, honored checks, etc." Banks have been honoring the supervisor's wishes, but some banks have gone farther than others. Bank Hapoalim earns special notice for its relatively large variety of offers, including highly attractive loans: Up to NIS 20,000 at prime interest minus 0.25 percent and a return rate of up to 36 payments. This loan has been offered to all residents of the North, the areas bordering Gaza, and reserve soldiers issued a tsav 8 emergency call-up order.
AG: Leveraging SOA to Deliver Business Goals, Part 3 (of 3)
Youve analyzed and optimized your business processes. Youve service-enabled your existing applications. But, using our earlier customer service example, you may still be missing functionality like credit checks or online ordering which are required to support your online customer service center. You need to provide your application development teams with the flexibility required to build and deliver new or enhanced application functionality as standard services Web, Java or .NET. Speed and quality are both critical aspects of application design, but they are often conflicting. This requires a highly productive service-oriented development environment that empowers developers to rapidly generate new business functions. By utilizing powerful modeling and code generation capabilities, developers can expose functions as reusable services accessible to applications built in .NET, Java or into an SOA environment.
Asian students tell of ejection from airliner
Two Asian students who were thrown off a plane because passengers thought they were terrorists yesterday demanded an apology from the airline involved for bowing to hysteria. Sohail Ashraf and his friend Khurram Zeb, both 22, believe Monarch Airlines was wrong to remove them from flight ZB 613 from Malaga to Manchester because they had cleared all the security checks before boarding the passenger jet. Speaking to the Guardian, the two students said the Spanish authorities had expressed their frustration and concern over their eviction from the jet last week. Mr Zeb said it was the Monarch pilot who had ordered him and his friend off the plane, after several passengers expressed concern when they boarded. The men, who first revealed details of their ordeal to the Mirror, said they had spent £300 between them on a day trip to Malaga after a stressful few weeks sitting exams.
Williamston council sets spending controls
The Williamston Town Council voted Thursday night to put spending controls in place to keep a tighter reign on the towns finances in preparation for a possible tax increase. The council voted 5-0 on a proposal from Town Council member Marion Middleton Jr. which would require more signatures on checks and purchase orders, and would provide weekly reports of checks written. Weekly budget reports also would be available based on the new guidelines. Mr. Middleton also proposed budgetary controls that would remove the mayors authority to transfer money between line items and would place caps on each line item of the budget. The proposal mirrored several ideas presented to the council previously by accountant Bob Daniel and governmental consultant Joe Newton, both of whom have been assisting the town in its recovery from near financial ruin since January.
